Kiln Dried Hardwood Logs - FAQs

Kiln Dried Hardwood Logs

What is kiln dried hardwood?

Kiln dried hardwood is wood that has been dried out in a kiln (a type of oven). Kiln drying is preferred to other drying methods because it produces wood with consistent lower moisture content, which leads to less smoke and more efficient burning, giving you more for your money. It also kills off pests and mould making it safer to store indoors.

Can kiln dried wood get wet?

Yes, kiln dried wood can get wet if not stored properly. You should protect your kiln dried wood to prevent it getting wet as this will reduce its efficiency! Here at Stewart Timber, we sell a range of log stores to keep your firewood safe from the elements.

How to tell if wood is kiln dried?

You can spot kiln dried wood as it is often uniform in colour, has low moisture content, and has minimal cracking/warping.

Does kiln dried wood rot?

If stored properly, kiln dried wood is resistant to fungal decay. Its low moisture content means it’s not as attractive a home for bacteria and bugs.

Where do you deliver to?

We deliver to Glasgow, Edinburgh, and across the central belt of Scotland.

How much does delivery cost?

You can collect for free from our Cumbernauld site. For addresses within 30 miles of our site, we offer free delivery, with a minimum of 2 bags for orders between 20 and 30 miles. Beyond this, you can contact us for a quote.
