Our hardwood firewood is kiln dried, resulting in less than 20% moisture content, so you get maximum heat with an efficient and clean burn. Our hardwood firewood is safe to burn in smoke controlled areas since we are Woodsure and “Ready to Burn” certified.

I buy hardwood logs from Stewart Timber. The quality is excellent and I get the impression they actually care about supplying quality firewood over and above just the basic business transaction. And I really appreciate that they have clearly made an effort to maintain good prices - that does not go unnoticed. Thanks!

Fantastic service. Ordered firewood ready for the colder autumn weather. Really good price and good quality, well-dried wood. Impressed with the delivery service as well, friendly, courteous and able to unload the wood exactly where I asked.

I am absolutely delighted with the firewood delivery service provided by Stewart Timber. They went above and beyond by placing the firewood right outside my shed, saving me time and effort. The wood itself is of exceptional quality, and their professionalism and attention to detail are commendable. Highly recommended!

Hardwood Firewood Logs - FAQs

Hardwood Firewood Logs FAQs

Which hardwoods are best for firewood?

Some top hardwood choices for use as firewood include: oak, ash, beech, and birch. Oak and ash reach highest temperatures and burn for the longest time, whereas birch is easy to ignite.

What is the difference between hardwood and softwood?

The main differences between hardwood and softwood include:

  • Heat output: Hardwood is denser so has more energy to burn, resulting in higher temperatures.
  • Burn time: Hardwood burns for longer. Softwood is best for starting the initial flame.
  • Smoke production: Hardwood produces less smoke.
  • Flame characteristics: Hardwood creates a lower, steady flame, whereas softwood creates lively, bright, crackly flames.
  • Cost: Hardwood is more expensive than softwood but burns more efficiently so is more cost-effective for long-burning fires.

What is kiln dried firewood?

Kiln dried firewood is wood that is dried in a kiln (a type of oven). It’s a way of quickly and thoroughly drying wood to achieve low moisture content and to kill of bugs/mould.
