Hardwood Firewood Logs
Hardwood firewood logs are energy powerhouses, with longer burn times, lower and steadier flames, and less smoke output compared to softwood. Our hardwood firewood is kiln dried, resulting in less than 20% moisture content, so you get maximum heat with an efficient and clean burn. Our hardwood firewood is safe to burn in smoke controlled areas since we are Woodsure and “Ready to Burn” certified.

Hardwood Firewood Logs - FAQs
Hardwood Firewood Logs FAQs
Which hardwoods are best for firewood?
Some top hardwood choices for use as firewood include: oak, ash, beech, and birch. Oak and ash reach highest temperatures and burn for the longest time, whereas birch is easy to ignite.
What is the difference between hardwood and softwood?
The main differences between hardwood and softwood include:
- Heat output: Hardwood is denser so has more energy to burn, resulting in higher temperatures.
- Burn time: Hardwood burns for longer. Softwood is best for starting the initial flame.
- Smoke production: Hardwood produces less smoke.
- Flame characteristics: Hardwood creates a lower, steady flame, whereas softwood creates lively, bright, crackly flames.
- Cost: Hardwood is more expensive than softwood but burns more efficiently so is more cost-effective for long-burning fires.
What is kiln dried firewood?
Kiln dried firewood is wood that is dried in a kiln (a type of oven). It’s a way of quickly and thoroughly drying wood to achieve low moisture content and to kill of bugs/mould.
