Composite Decking

Composite decking is a modern, low-maintenance alternative to traditional timber decking. Made from a blend of recycled plastic and real wood fibres (WPC), it gives you the natural look of wood without the ongoing upkeep.

Built to handle the Scottish climate, composite decking stays looking great year after year - no staining, no rotting, no hassle!

Why choose composite decking?

  • 10-year guarantee - made to stand the test of time.
  • Low maintenance - no painting, staining or sealing required.
  • Weather-resistant - won’t rot, warp or splinter over time.
  • Not slippery - absorbs less water, reducing slippery algae and mould.
  • Easy installation - straightforward, DIY-friendly installation.

The guys who delivered it were super helpful and the shed is great. I was so pleased I ordered a wood store, and that experience was the same. I'll be ordering a bike shed in the next few weeks too. Really, really great company.

Used this frim three times now. Every experience has been excellent. Used both collection and their delivery service. Quality of timber is superb. I did railing and decking job and purchased one of their sheds which they erected (in the price!). Very pleased.

Recently purchased a quantity of deck boards for a decking project. Given the current climate with sourcing materials and sly high prices, I was expecting this company to be no different to the rest I'd received quotes from. I was pleasantly surprised by the price for the deck boards I required. Very reasonable. Also, delivered super quick. Excellent service.

I can’t speak highly enough of this company. Helpful, super quick delivery, no request a hassle.

Used them for a decking project this spring and also more recently for a log store build. Provided them with my cut list (straightforward, but above just sending lengths as purchased) and they did it without question.

Big thanks to the team, won’t use anyone else for timber purchases.

Composite Decking - FAQs

Does composite decking fade over time?

Composite decking can fade over time, but good quality boards will only be minimally affected. The change usually happens in the first 3-6 months, a process called “weathering”. Manufacturers deliberately make the boards darker to start with so the final “weathered” colour is not faint.

Can I install composite decking myself?

Yes, you can install composite decking yourself! It is fairly straightforward, even if you’re a newbie to DIY. With a proper installation guide, the right tools, and the right concentration, you can install more easily than timber decking, with fastening clips.

Is composite decking slippery when wet?

Composite decking is designed to be slip-resistant, even when it’s wet. It absorbs less water than timber decking, which makes it less prone to growing slippery algae and mould. You should keep on top of cleaning 1-2 times a year to ensure it is not slippery underfoot.

Can you put composite decking directly on concrete?

Yes, you can build a composite deck directly on concrete. You should first build a subframe with pressure-treated timber joists to create a level foundation and to ensure proper drainage away from your house.

Can you power wash composite decking?

You can power wash decking but you should be cautious. You should only use a low-pressure setting (1,500-2,500 psi) with a wide fan-tip nozzle, kept 200-300mm from the deck surface to avoid scratches / cuts to the material. It is better to simply hose down with warm, soapy water and brush with a soft brush.

Does composite decking need maintenance?

Composite decking requires light maintenance. It is much lower maintenance than timber decking. It needs cleaned one or two times a year with warm, soapy water and a soft brush. To prevent stains and mould, debris should be swept off regularly and any food / drink spills should be wiped off straight away.

Is composite decking better than timber?

It depends on what matters most to you!

  • Aesthetics – composite has a more modern, uniform finish whereas timber decking is best if you prefer a more natural wood grain.
  • Cost – composite is more expensive upfront, but has lower maintenance costs than timber.
  • Maintenance – composite requires light cleaning but no painting/staining. Timber needs stained/sealed/sanded every 1-4 years.
  • Longevity – composite lasts longer than timber (25-30 years vs 15-25 years).

Slip prevention – composite absorbs less watery so is less slippery than poorly maintained timber decking.

How long does composite decking last?

Composite decking is a great long-term investment. It typically lasts 25 to 30 years, and with proper installation and care, it can easily last beyond this.
