9 indoor log storage ideas (with creative and upcycled options!)

Looking for a practical storage solution for storing firewood indoors? We have some fantastic ideas in this post. We’ve made sure to include ideas for repurposing items you may already have, ideas for new things you can purchase, and inspiration if you are in the process of remodelling.

IKEA KALLAX Shelves

IKEA KALLAX shelves are one of the most versatile products they sell. They are cheap and customisable, with various shelf unit options depending on how much storage you need and whether it’s solely for firewood or for displaying decor or storing other items too. Simply place the unit somewhere convenient for you and stack your firewood straight into the cubbies.

Old bookcase

Got an old bookcase you can repurpose or can you pick up one cheaply at a local charity shop or on Facebook Marketplace? This is similarly to the IKEA KALLAX idea but you will have wider shelves to stack straight across rather than confined to the cubbies. Again, you can use some of the shelves to store decorative items if you don’t need all the space for firewood.

Decorative baskets/crates

You can pick up lovely decorative baskets to store a small supply of firewood right beside your fireplace. Rustic wicker baskets are very popular, or you can look for a lovely antique-looking brass bucket. There are plenty of options to suit your interior decor tastes – and you can repurpose many storage containers you may have lying around your home too.

Alcove

You may have an alcove in your wall already, or keep this idea in mind if you are remodelling. This is a good idea as you can stack the firewood directly into the alcove and fill up as high as the alcove will allow! Be sure to stack them tightly to avoid them tumbling out.

Under fire storage cubby

You may have a slot under your log burner or fireplace to store firewood already, or keep this idea in mind if you’re remodelling. Storing firewood in a space directly under the fire is convenient and ensures it stays toasty (but it is separate so it won’t dry out too much).

Floating shelves

You can use your firewood almost as a decor piece by installing sturdy wooden floating shelves and stacking firewood on top. Again, be sure that you have stacked them tightly to avoid them falling off.

Under bench

If you have a bench in your hallway to sit on while you get your shoes on, you can repurpose the cubbies underneath to store firewood instead of shoes. This is a great option if you have alternative shoe storage and don’t want to go out and purchase another product. It will give your hallway a cosy, rustic farmhouse feel.

Decorative standing shelves

You can purchase custom made decorative shelves for stacking your wood. These have different compartments which are great for separating different sizes of wood.

In-built storage pillars

If you’re in the process of remodelling, you can design in-built storage pillars on either side of your fireplace to stack firewood logs. This is a convenient place to store the firewood, right beside your fire.
